Monterrey Oak
This species was removed from the restoration set on 2026 · 07 · 27. Its plate is retired; this note stands in its place.
Quercus polymorpha
Why it was removed
Removed as effectively non-native here. The only known wild US population is in Val Verde County, roughly 250 miles southwest; NPSOT’s own treatment calls it “barely native.” No site-specific habitat argument supported keeping it in a publicly funded native-restoration list.
What replaces it
The Foundation Canopy is carried by Post Oak, Bur Oak, Live Oak and Cedar Elm.
Why publish thisA public database that documents its own removals is more trustworthy than one that only ever grows. The correction is worth more than the record was.
