Muscadine Grape
This species was removed from the restoration set on 2026 · 07 · 27. Its plate is retired; this note stands in its place.
Vitis rotundifolia
Why it was removed
Removed as out of documented range. Muscadine is native to East Texas and requires slightly acid soils; this ground is alkaline limestone, and NPSOT notes chlorosis at pH 7 and above. NPSOT’s ecoregion listing includes neither the Cross Timbers (where the property sits) nor the Edwards Plateau, and the plate’s own detail photograph was from North Palm Beach, Florida.
What replaces it
Mustang Grape (Vitis mustangensis) is the correct Hill Country native and is retained in the set. See its plate \u2192
Why publish thisA public database that documents its own removals is more trustworthy than one that only ever grows. The correction is worth more than the record was.
